i really like the first one angeldust, i wish some site had some coherent article on how to create things like that, the border mainly with the grunge-ness

Dude, it's all about brushes. Get some grunge brushes, and us e them. you'll know what i mean, once you get a hold of them, they're really not that hard to use.
The scanlines were simple as well, and the circular ones were made from normal ones by running a polar co ordinates filter. The bug pic was a pic a photographer friend of mine took.
Grunge look is mostly about grunge brushes, lotsa overlay layers over eachother, and warm tone. give it a go.

Dust, could you supply me with some links to where you got your brushes? I had some of the ones you are using before I reformatted and now they are gone.
