A group of friends and I will be traveling to New York during spring break. I'm interested in booking a 'hostel' instead of a 'hotel' because I've heard and seen that it's cheaper for poor college students. Some of my friends aren't so keen on the idea so I need your help to convince them that it isn't that bad.
Please post anything (experiences, horror stories, pros and cons, whateva) that'll help me convince them.
Also, feel free to mention anything worth visiting when I venture over, I've only been to Vegas, California, Florida, and a small part of Washington, so I haven't seen shit.

I don't know about New York but I do know that hostels are a totally awesome experience. They are usually interesting people to meet there (when me and pika & friends went to Portland our roommate was a stripper :eek: ) plus they're cheap and usually have maps/lists of cheap/local events and stuff so it's easy to find things to do. I highly recommend hostelling.

just FYI:
Portland has the highest strip club per capita rate in the whole United States.
We have over +60 strip clubs. :o
