I'm planning on building a PC for the best gaming imaginable close to the $3000 range (with only 2000), and need help selecting the right components. This is my first actual building of a comp from the items themselves, although I've been successful with item upgrades in older ones.

I have the following parts picked out already:

Case w/power supply --$85

Motherboard ----------Asus P4B533 - $72.90

CPU ------------------2.8 Ghz p4 - $382

RAM------------------2 512mb sticks of DDR - $200

Video Card-----------Geforce ti4200 64mb - $0 (cuz i stole it from my brother ;P)

Sound Card -----------Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Plat - $167

Modem ----------------Generic 56k V90 - $10

Speakers -------------Logitech z640 5.1 - $70

Mouse ----------------Logitech MX 700 - $64

Keyboard -------------Logitech Elite Keyboard - $36

OS-------------------WinXp Home Edition - $83

I need help with the following in prices and brands:

Hard Drive - 120gb ata 133 w/8 mb cache - ?

Monitor - 21 inches - ??

DVD/CD-Rw - ?

Anything else - ??

Total cost atm: $1169.90

am I missing anything?

amd all the way, intel is for gay bill gates fags. ?If you want the ultimate gaming machine, get an FX card when they come out. ?I have a radeon 9700 pro, and its alright but the refresh rates are kinda funky with the card runnin in XP, i think it may just be that my monitor sucks, yeah get a good monitor or your eyes will hurt when you play HL at 1600x1200 like I do

I would suggest getting a better video card. A ti4200 isn't bad, but if you're trying to make an "ULTIMATE GAMING RIG", the video card is one of the most important components.

Check newegg for your missing prices and I would also say to get a better vid card. ?Go ahead and either get two HDs or get a 200. ?And the OS as much as I hate it Win2k is better for goaming than XP Home, of course I use XP Pro and have only had one game not run, and I mean how many of you have actually played Requiem.

as far as proccessors, I am kind of preferential to Intel as well, not really a fanboy, but I had a K6-2 and it ran fine, but the the two other AMDs I had died.  And plus my laptop and my wifes laptop are the exact same hardware except that hers has a 1.4ghz AMD and mine has a shitty little 1.16Intel Celeron and mine runs way faster and has no multitasking lag.
