My friend mentioned this today in school, and in theory this is a good idea. Why don't we send our nuclear waste and other trash to the sun? Say we have developed an efficient way to get garbage into space, how much would it cost to throw it into a say a huge metal canister and just give it a push toward the sun? Perhaps have a simple system on it to steer it away from the other planet's gravational pull. Anyway, when it reaches the sun, it wouldn't even get near the surface before it was incinerated. You can't say it would affect the sun because look how big the sun is compared to the earth, a container of trash smaller than the earth would have zero affect on the sun. Its like an atom hitting our bodies, the size difference is so huge.

But what if the shuttle sending the shit into space runs into a NYC building or is hijacked by terrorists?

this thread involves too much thinking and will instead be spammed

cause if it didn't get to the sun then it would be "space junk" and we sure as hell don't want any more of that. the thought of a chip of paint making a huge dent in a piece of metal frightens me. (and it has happened)

Ok well say it will only go to the sun nowhere else.

i had that idea a while ago, it would probably cost too much to get that small ammount of waste off the planet. unless we can do it in a huge scale i dont think its reasonable

I think the main idea behind it is that as of yet we do not have an efficient enough method of launching things into outer space. Trust me, you guys are not the first people to have thought of that. I mean, scientists have the know-how to build a fusion reactor in theory, but it requires further technology (namely a magical conducting material) to get it working.

What I am saying is, IF and WHEN an efficient way to get the trash into space is created, this would be a good idea.
