Im planning on building my own pc soon.  I know the gist of how it works, but I need some help with the cables and such.  I want to make it look kinda spiffy, so Im going to buy round cables.  The thing is I need to know how many cables and what kind Im going to need.  I know Im going to have to buy an ata for each of the hds, but what about the rom drives and the floppy?  Thx in advance. ;0

Why the round cables though? If it's just going to be on the inside of the case, nobody will see it anyways. It won't give you better performance either. The number you need depends on the cable itself (if it has a master and slave) and how many components you have. You could try looking on ebay for "round ide cable" just to get an idea of what's out there. When you buy a motherboard however, it will come with all the cables you need. Buying round ones seperatly will just set you back $5-10 per cable. Anyways, good luck with that. :)

case modding is the lose.

don't bother trying to maek your case liek omfg so 1`3373 its gonna cost you and i am damn sure it wont be worth it.

just get a decent case like an antec, those look good on their own.

you are gonna need 1 cable for the floppy, 1 cable per 2 hard drives (master and slave), and 1 cable per IDE drive because sharing the same cable for IDE drives is bad, at least that is what nero tells me.

I'd say go for it. If you're adding a window I think it's a good idea. The cables for the floppy and IDE are ugly :( I'm adding a window, light and rounded cables to my case and it's not going to cost more than $100.

Okay.. so 1 ata cable with dual device for 2 hds.  Then 1 ata for each ide drive and a fdd for the floppy. Got it.  Thanks alot. ;0
