************

Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a US radio personality. Recently, she said that as an observant Orthodox Jew, homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22 and cannot be condoned in any circumstance. The following is an open letter to Dr. Laura penned by a US resident, which was posted on the Internet:

Dear Dr. Laura,

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, or example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.

I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to follow them.

1 - When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

2 - I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3 - I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offence.

4 - Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

5 - I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

6 - A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this?

7 - Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some room for negotiation here?

8 - Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev.19:27. How should they die?

9 - I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10 - My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? (Lev.24:10-16) Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

Your devoted disciple and adoring fan.

I?m going to continue to misinterpret the Old Testament and use an out of context passage as an excuse to hate another group of people to make myself feel righteous.  Oh, and I burn Harry potter books too.

*sigh* here we go an alternative view probably just doing it cause i am teh christian ;0 dun flame me just posting out of interest if your not interested just skip meh reply thnks:

1 - Christ was the final sacrifice, if your still sacrifcing your sorta missing the whole point as sacrifices were a temporary way to cover ones sins.

2 - thought you were only allowed to have foreign slaves? ;0

3 - Well your also not supposed to be in adultery meaning this issue is something you and your trusting wife will have to settle.

4 - Couldn't find it in the specified passage, I do know it says something about this in exodus but you have to pay your slave and let him go after a certain ammount of time and be uber nice to him/her. The reason god allowed it probably and mainly for the fact that it had to be people from outside nations was so that foriegners would learn about god within israel even if the circumstances were unplesant.

5 - Nope. Moses told this unto a congresion during the establishemnt of the laws, We should regard Sunday/Sabbath as a day of rest to worship god.. the main reason for the day was to be reminded of God having created he world in 6 days and resting on the seventh. People were put to death in those days because Israel was gods chosen nation therefore he was strict on the laws he set being obeyed.

When Christ was born and sacrificed he replaced the covenant of the law with the covenant of his blood. ie: God decided to sacrifice his only son for the remitence of his peoples sin making their going to heaven less to do with the law then to do with believing in Christ however the law should still be observed.

It would be good to observe the sabbath in remmemmbereance of God if one wishes to worship him but Christ does mention that helping people if they are in need on on a sunday it is ok to help them so long as its not profit driven. And no you can't kill him yourself it would be murder, we have whatever government to work the laws enforcement... Today we have uber freedom.. count yer blessings ;0

6 ?Leviticus explains what man should and shouldn't eat, he makes no mention of muscles but I assume that cause it doesn't have fins or scales as perscribed in Leviticus. theres a good reason why in does days people shouldn't just pick stuff up and eat it, it says it should be like an abomination unto you, doesn't say its an abomination unto god, the reason for this section is because people often contracted diseases from foods etc in those days, a swine for example wasn't advisable to eat in desert conditions when you don't have a fridge. Christ makes mention that its not what goes in your mouth that stains you but what comes out, and by that it means words not puke thanks but yer that too ;0

7 - can't find anything of the sort in that chapter 20:20, I do know it says something like this in the new testament but it talks of a person being blind to their own sin... ie: self righteous.

8 - Doesn't speak of this being a do and die penalty.. There was something about being not shaved in those days I have yet to read more about it.. but back then there was no disinfectant so an easy slip of the razor/sword could mean infections etc..

9 - bacteria, Pigs have alot of em, anyway your pig skin footy should have been cleansed with many a industrial cleaners so no worries ;0

10 - Doesn't say that people will be burnt privately it says they will be burnt.. ie: the authorities / town or whatever takes care of it.

anyway the first covenant which was Gods law was made as a stmbling block so that men could see and acknoledge how sinfull they were because no one could keep the law in spirit and or flesh. The only one who did was Christ who was sacrificed as per the second covenant that whomsoever believeth in him shall recieve eternal life.

As for the whole gay thing I think the motto is God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.. ;0

Does this mean you should kill burn destroy and hate everyone who is contrary to the bible? no it says you should hate sin itself and love everyone as Christ/God would love you. Which is hard to do but yeah you shouldn't encourage or partake or entertain the company of sinfull acts etc.

I probably made no sense to most of you which doesn't surprise me.. I just thought I'd give my 2 cents ;0
